This is their money, and their choices about it always come first.\n\n\nComplete transparency\n\nOpenness is the heart of keeping money safe. Every transaction a carer makes on your loved one's behalf is written down: what money was received, what was spent, the change returned, and what it was for, with receipts kept wherever possible. These records are then checked and audited by our quality assurance team.\n\nThis transparency does two important things at once. It protects your loved one and their money, and it protects the carer from any possible misunderstanding, so that everything is always clear and accountable.\n\n\nSimple, careful habits\n\nIn their day-to-day practice, our carers follow a few sensible habits that keep everything clean and clear: counting money together with your loved one where possible, returning any change straight away, keeping receipts safely, and never mixing your loved one's money with their own. Small things, done consistently, that make a real difference.\n\n\nCareful rules around bank cards\n\nWhere a bank card is involved, the rules are stricter still. A carer will only use your loved one's card where it has been properly risk-assessed, agreed in the care plan, consented to, and where there is no safer alternative. And carers never keep your loved one's bank card, PIN or online banking details outside of the specific arrangement that has been agreed.\n\n\nClear limits our carers always follow\n\nFor your loved one's protection, there are firm rules every carer must follow. Among other things, our carers will never:\n\n * handle large sums of money (there is a low limit on what can be handled at once, unless something more has been specifically agreed)\n * buy anything with your loved one's money for anyone other than your loved one\n * become involved in wills, legal or financial arrangements, or offer anything that could be taken as financial advice\n * accept gifts or loans from your loved one, or lend them money\n * gain any personal benefit from spending your loved one's money\n\nThese boundaries are not there because we expect problems. They are there precisely so that problems can never arise.\n\n\nA simpler alternative\n\nIn some cases, rather than a carer handling cash at all, your loved one's care-related expenses can be invoiced directly to whoever manages the bills, with receipts provided. It is simply another way we keep things transparent and straightforward, and we will talk through what suits your family best when setting up care.\n\n\nWatching out for financial abuse\n\nThis part matters a great deal. Sadly, older and more vulnerable people can sometimes become targets for financial abuse, occasionally even by people they know. Our carers are trained to keep a watchful eye out for the warning signs, such as missing money, unexplained transactions, unusual withdrawals, or pressure from others, and to report any concern immediately, whatever its source.\n\nSo we do not only handle money carefully ourselves. By being present and attentive, our carers help protect your loved one's finances more widely, which is a genuine and often overlooked benefit of having a trusted professional in the home.\n\n\nHeld to the highest standards\n\nWe hold our carers to the very highest standards of honesty and integrity, and we take any breach of these rules extremely seriously. The trust you place in us, and that your loved one places in their carer, is something we protect fiercely. You can read more about how careful oversight runs through everything we do in our guide to the care assessment.\n\n\nMoney matters, safely handled\n\nHandling money is a small but sensitive part of care, and we have surrounded it with transparency, careful habits and clear safeguards. The result is simple: your loved one's finances stay exactly where they should be, safe, accounted for, and firmly in their control.\n\nIf you would like to talk through how we would care for your loved one, we would be glad to help.\n\nBook a free care advice call, or give us a ring on 020 3970 9900. We are always happy to answer any question, however small.\n\n","primary_tag":{"name":"Safety, health and wellbeing"},"slug":"how-do-we-keep-your-loved-ones-money-safe","publishedDisplay":"08 Jul 2026","updatedDisplay":"23 Jul 2026","publishedIso":"2026-07-08T14:34:38.000+00:00","updatedIso":"2026-07-23T13:04:00.000+00:00","feature_image_sharp":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"constrained","backgroundColor":"#c8d8c8","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/dbd40/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.jpg","srcSet":"/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/d3119/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.jpg 500w,\n/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/26b49/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.jpg 1000w,\n/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/dbd40/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.jpg 2000w","sizes":"(min-width: 2000px) 2000px, 100vw"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/cd07d/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.webp 500w,\n/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/bf95e/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.webp 1000w,\n/static/e1f1e7c18c3ea6d71c52652a18e7a478/d36eb/vitaly-gariev-KEBUtOS3yFc-unsplash.webp 2000w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"(min-width: 2000px) 2000px, 100vw"}]},"width":2000,"height":1125}}},"primary_author":{"bio":"Communications and Marketing Lead","name":"Jamie Shie","slug":"jamie","profile_image_sharp":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"constrained","backgroundColor":"#383838","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/2e55b/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.png","srcSet":"/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/5fbde/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.png 132w,\n/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/6672c/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.png 264w,\n/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/2e55b/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.png 528w","sizes":"(min-width: 528px) 528px, 100vw"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/df6d7/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.webp 132w,\n/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/5bda5/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.webp 264w,\n/static/4ce69bfa95322a3b177d8c8b946cc319/3155f/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-09.28.27.webp 528w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"(min-width: 528px) 528px, 100vw"}]},"width":528,"height":466}}}}},"relatedPosts":{"nodes":[{"title":"Recognising Signs of Pain in a Parent Who Can't Easily Express It","slug":"recognising-signs-of-pain-in-a-parent-who-cant-easily-express-it","feature_image_sharp":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"constrained","backgroundColor":"#080808","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/f19bc/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.jpg","srcSet":"/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/26cfb/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.jpg 500w,\n/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/1b035/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.jpg 1000w,\n/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/f19bc/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.jpg 2000w","sizes":"(min-width: 2000px) 2000px, 100vw"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/921bf/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.webp 500w,\n/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/b7ef5/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.webp 1000w,\n/static/c8c66cacd7aa5f72e9576f44a407cfb9/c9c6a/junior-reis-R1H2Y7T7m3I-unsplash.webp 2000w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"(min-width: 2000px) 2000px, 100vw"}]},"width":2000,"height":1333}}},"excerpt":"Pain is hard enough to cope with when you can describe it.
